LOSING WHAT YOU HAVE FOR SOMETHING THAT IS NOT THERE


It all started as a flirt with a handsome man, Lihle, whom she believed was her future husband. They came from different tribes but that did not bother Sihle. They were workmates. Lihle was always her inspiration to go to work because she knew that she would see him. Although they were working in different departments, she always made sure that she would see him, sometimes making excuses for him to come to her office. She loved Lihle but could not tell him since she was still involved with her child’s father (Felix). Even though Felix was staying in another country, he was able to visit Sihle any time.

Things between Felix and Sihle started taking a bad turn, but that didn’t bother Sihle much since she felt ready to make a move on Lihle. She did not even bother to beg Felix because she knew that she had someone she had wanted for some time. She started getting closer to Lihle, sometimes even saving his pictures on her phone. Sihle was in the Media department, so she would take pictures of Lihle whenever they had a function and she would send them later to him. She wouldn’t delete the pictures afterwards but stored them so as to look at them whenever she missed him.

Many people started noticing that Sihle and Lihle were getting closer, a bit more comfortable than mere colleagues, but that didn’t stop her from seeing him. She had support from her best friend who always encouraged her to make a move to him before someone else does.

Sihle started ensuring that wherever Lihle was, she was also there and would post some of their pictures on social media. Her love for him kept growing but when people asked what was going on between them, she would deny any romantic relationship between them; they were “innocent colleagues” as she often put it. Needless to say, she didn’t care what people said or thought.

After some time, another guy started showing interest with Sihle and wanted a romantic relationship with her. Sihle was never interested though. She felt that Lihle was playing hard to get, so she allowed the guy into her life but merely for sexual satisfaction. She didn’t love him.

The new guy started doing nice things for Sihle. Sometimes she would find the house cleaned. He would even cook for her, trying to impress and convince her that things between them could work out. But still, she was not interested. She believed her life was with Lihle and didn’t want to complicate things.

Sometimes Sihle would even receive calls in front of the new guy, send texts while he was around and make him invisible, in order for him to leave her. She didn’t want to kick him out though. But later, the guy left her.

Time rolled and Lihle started to come around. He and Sihle spent nights talking on the phone. Even though sometimes Lihle would spend more than three days without calling, whenever he did, she would be over the moon and never even question where he had disappeared to.

One day Sihle discovered that Lihle was married. She couldn’t take it. She remembered how she had rejected someone who loved her despite all her flaws over someone who was already hooked onto someone else. What she did after discovering this news would shock everyone!
